Jal Jeera ( Indian Mint and Cumin Lemonade )

Jal Jeera is a very popular Indian drink which is made from fresh coriander, mint leaves and roasted cumin powder. It is very refreshing, have a cooling effect and is good for digestion as well. Here is the recipe to make a delicious and refreshing Jal Jeera at home. All you need is Fresh mint leaves - 1\2 cup Fresh coriander leaves - 1\2 cup Ginger - 1\2 inch piece Lemon juice - 2 tbsp Roasted cumin powder - 1\2 tsp Heeng \ Asafoetida - 1\4 tsp Black salt - 2 tsp Salt - 2 tsp Black pepper powder - 1\4 tsp Sugar - 1 tsp Dry mango powder - 2 tsp Tamarind pulp - 1 tbsp Water - 4 cups Method of preparation Wash the mint and coriander leaves. Blend them with ginger in a blender to make a smooth paste. Add little water if required. Transfer the paste in a big bowl. Add all the remaining ingredients. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours before serving. It is important to keep jal jeera for a few hours before serving for the flavors to develop.

Arugula, Watermelon and Feta salad

Arugula, watermelon and feta is a classic salad combination. The peppery arugula blends very well with the sweet watermelon and the salty feta. I had this salad in my mind for a long time but was not getting my hands on a bunch of Arugula. Recently a friend, who grows it in her house brought me some fresh leaves from her garden and I took no time in deciding where am I going to use it. The balsamic vinaigrette that I posted the other day was the perfect dressing for the salad. Here is how to assemble the salad. All you need is Arugula \ Rocket leaves - 3-4 cups Watermelon - 1 kg watermelon ( peeled, de seeded and cut into small pieces ) Feta cheese - 100 g Balsamic vinaigrette - 3-4 tbsp ( Recipe is here ) Method of preparation Wash the arugula leaves and wrap them in a cotton cloth for 5 minutes to get rid of excess water on the leaves. Passion Fruit Iced Tea

The days have started to get a bit warm in Bangalore. I have already started to draw the curtain of my living room during the day time and water my plants twice a day. Before I could savor all the warm and hearty soups that I love to sip on the cold winter evenings, It's already time to move on to my iced teas and sherbets. On a recent visit to my grocery store, I found passion fruits in the fruits section and bought a few packets. I had a few recipes in mind but an Iced tea topped the list. So the passion fruits went in to this very refreshing and light iced tea. Here is the recipe. All you need is Tea - 2 tsp ( I used Tajmahal brand ) Water - 4 cups Sugar - 1\2 cup Passion fruits - 12-15 Lemon juice - 2 tsp Mint leaves - 3-4 springs Ice cubes Method of preparation Bring water to a boil.
