Sabudana Vada/ Crispy Sago (Tapioca Pearls) Fritters

Image
S abudana Vada / Tapioca Pearl Fritters are a most popular Indian snack which is liked by all. This is a traditional dish of Maharashtra, which is made during the time of fasting/ vrat for festivals, as this dish doesn't contain any onions or garlic. An easy and a simple snack which can be prepared in a less time if everything is well planned ahead. These super delicious snacks are crispy from outside and soft from inside. Sago / Tapioca pearl is pure carbohydrate, the addition of peanuts to sago adds to the protein content, making it a balanced meal. The popular things which can be made using sago are sabudana kichdi and sabudana kheer.  A little preparation ahead like soaking the sago overnight, boiled, peeled and mashed potatoes, roasting and coarsely grinding the peanuts make the work easy. This vada/ fritter is often enjoyed with spicy green chutney and a hot tea. Try this out and let me know. Ingredients: Tapioca Pearls/ Sabudana- 1 Cup Boiled Po...

Homemade Rasgullas- By my dear friend...

Image
R asgullas are one of the most popular Indian sweet, which we get in almost all the bakeries. My friend gave the rasgullas which she made from scratch. They were so soft, spongy and delicious which I wanted to share with all of you. I took the recipe from her and here it is today in my blog. She is an amazing cook and loves to try new dishes. These rasgullas were so heavenly that we finished off one after the other. But before finishing off, I managed to take pictures for my blog. In this, the milk is curdled and then drained for some time. Knead the cheese well and drop into the sugar syrup and let it cook till done. Proper kneading is important, or else the rasgullas will break while cooking in the sugar syrup. The flavors are enhanced by the addition of rose essence. As Holi festival is nearing, this is a perfect dessert to share with friends. With just minimal ingredients we can make an appetizing dessert. Try this a dessert and let me know. Ingredients: Whole Milk- 6...

Fish Biryani- An exquisite dish to celebrate the 8th blogiversary...

Image
Happy to announce my blog's 8th anniversary A classic fish biryani which can be devoured at all times. Fish biryani is a perfect combination of the spices, rice along with marinated fried fish. Rather than weekdays, I prefer weekends for preparing elaborate meals like the biryani, which everyone in the house can enjoy comfortably. Usually, I will be making chicken or mutton biryani, this is the first time I tried preparing fish biryani. I tasted the fish biriyani first when I visited my brother’s place. My SIL who is a great cook prepared this within no time and instantly I fell in love with this biryani but I never dared to make biryani at home. I have had a few disasters at first like the rice was undercooked or overcooked! But now I have perfected the art of making biryani and there is nothing like a good home cooked version. Once I started making biryanis, I prepared this fish biryani and everyone in my house liked it. We can use sear fish, or any fis...

Pani Puri with Homemade Puris

Image
P ani Puri is one of my favorite chaats from childhood. Whenever we go out, we used to thoroughly enjoy the chaat from the roadside street vendors. In every nook and corner, you can see a pani puri stall. We used to have competition, as who will have more puris. Every Indian like pani puri to the core. It is said that this not only satisfies your taste buds but also keeps the kid in you alive. Once during fasting time, in Bangalore, after breaking the fast I had 30- 35 pani puris without eating anything. I like to have them anytime of the day. After coming to the US it has become very rare to find pani puri. We will get the pani puri kit in all the Indian stores. I started making it from scratch as we don’t find the puris most of the time in stores. My daughter loves it a lot. She won’t eat anything else if pani puri is there for snacks. Pani puris have different names like the puchkas, gol gappas and so on. Pani means water and puri are the fried puffed dough balls. Yesterday was my s...
